In our designs, credibility plays an important role. A rock formation, waterfall or artificial tree have to look realistic and fit into the natural habitat of the animal in question. Esthetic and safe

When designing a thematic decoration, like for a theme park, safety plays a crucial role. Can an object be climbed upon? How sensitive is decoration for vibration produced by the attraction? And what about heavy concrete decoration placed build above public heads? These are all important issues to deal with when choosing the right construction method in our designs. Brainstorm sessions with your (design) team

We are happy to join your design team to brainstorm about your project and the role that thematic design and zoo-technical insight play herein. If we can get involved early in the decision making process, we can give advice on how to cut down expenses and discuss the appropriate construction methods with you.

On site research en pre-planning

Geological research, weather conditions, and also mapping out the most efficient and optimal use of the future project environment is very important. After the on site analysis we divide the characteristics of the project site into four categories: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and constraints (S.W.O.C.)

Concept development

After the first meeting we start by working out the plans. The initial ideas come to life through rough sketches a systematic approach and a description. We deliver innovative ideas according to your needs and wants. Our experience together with your vision and wishes form the basis for the onset of your project.

Masterplan design

Creating a complete master plan is a complex job. The relationship between the enclosures, buildings and main pedestrian routes are designed as a whole. Furthermore the master plan will also enclose the theme and experience one wants to transmit.

Landscape design

Whether designing a complete scenery for your project or designing specific elements and vegetation; we work together with architects, contractor and botanists to realize your ideas.

Exhibit design

Designing animal enclosures is our specialty. Our goal is to create a natural looking and safe habitat that also meets the demands of the animals and caregivers. Clearly we can not forget the visitors. Every enclosure can become an unforgettable experience equipped with educational materials where visitors can enjoy and be amazed at the beauty of nature.

Thematic decoration building plans

Thematic decorations translated into professional building plans, cross sectional views, support constructions etc. We work with AutoCAD, BIM work method and print on A1 size papers.

Artist impressions

Using multiple visualizers we bring your wishes and ideas to life. Building plans set the direction to the project and facilitate the opportunity for further designs. Furthermore, they can be used by all parties involved during the proces.

Project scale models

A project scale model gives the opportunity to make revisions early in the pre-constructing phase. It can also be used as an educational show model or to gain funds for the project. They’re an ideal aid for the contractor but also for our own artists. View angles can be calculated using the scale model.

Renovation design

Zoo’s change constantly. Existing enclosures that no longer meet the modern standards can be replaced by new enclosures or renovated. Renovation is usually less costly and we have a lot of experience in the renovation of older enclosures. Let us astound you with our approach and construction methods. We will transform an older enclosure into a modern and functional habitat, even with a smaller budget.

The Company “Houthoff Zoo Design” has Build in our “Jaderpark” the incredible Adventure complex “Grizzly Mountain Adventure”. In a very Creative Art has Houthoff built the rocky landscape of Grizzly Mountain. It is absolutley realistic and full of Little Details that make this property unique. All work was completed Perfect on Time and clean. Houthoff has ensured a high Level of Flexibility in the Design and Special requests. We are looking forward to work with Houthoff Zoo Design again to Build another stunning project.
